SOILESS GERMINATION IN TRADITIONAL HERBAL MEDICINE WILD MANGO TREE SPONDIAS PINNATA

Abstract
Spondias pinnata is a valuable threatened and medicinal plant. It is a well known plant indigenous to south East Asian countries. The plant has been used intensively in many traditional herbal medicines across the globe. This plant has been known to possess antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, ulcer-protective, anticancerous, anti-diarrhoeal, anthelmintic, cytotoxic and hepatoprotective activity. The present study was taken up with the aim to eliminate growing substrate and to germinate seed directly. The soilless germination recorded was 96 per cent and the germinants outplanted in nursery recorded survival of 100 per cent.
