CONCEPT OF APHRODISIACS IN AYURVEDA

Abstract
Ayurveda is the science of keeping perfect physical and mental health. It is a well organised system of medicine which originated in India about 3000 years ago and is being practiced even today. Recently W.H.O. has adapted the utility of traditional system of medicine and recognized Ayurveda as one of the most efficacious system of medicine. Aphrodisiacs are the drugs or other means which produce the capacity of procreation and prompt erection. Sexology describes the art of deriving maximum sexual pleasure whereas Ayurveda provides the methods of maintaining and increasing the erotic capacity and treatment for the sexual disorders. Thus a great importance has been given to Kama (sex) by Ayurveda. According to Charaka, “Health is the root of successful attainment of theology (Dharma), riches (Artha), sexology (Kama) and salvation (Moksha).
