THE EFFICACY OF AYURVEDIC DRUGS ON CANCER (ARBUDA)

Abstract
Arbuda which can be more or les co-related to the modern term ‘Cancer’ is an unconquered ailment, inspite of the advanced modern treatment like surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy etc. Now the patients are in search of a better remedy for this dreadful disease. Hence they are inclined to their traditional Ayurvedic treatment. In ancient Ayurvedic literature the treatment of arbuda is mentioned in detail. For the present study we have selected four compound preparations viz. Varanadi Quathsa, Khadirarishta, Gomootrahareetaki and Rasasindura. A non randomized phase I study of 55 cases, irrespective of their site and stage was conducted with the above mentioned drugs for a duration of minimum 2 months and maximum 2 years. Most of the cases selected had undergone cancer treatment, such as surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Observations were before, during and after the treatment. After a course of one month all the patients showed a gradual improvement in their presenting signs and symptoms viz. pain, tenderness, swelling and bleeding etc. Their general health also improved markedly.
