CLINICAL STUDY ON DIFFERENT MODES OF VIRECHANA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF EKA KUSHTHA (PSORIASIS)

Abstract
30 patients of Eka Kushtha (Psoriasis) were selected and randomly divided into two
groups viz. Virechana Karma and Nitya Rechana. In Virechana Karma group, Snehapana was done
with Murchhita Ghrita followed by Virechana performed with 50 gm of Manibhadra Vataka. In
Nitya Rechana group, Manibhadra Vataka was administered in the dosage of 20 gm with lukewarm
water daily in the morning, empty stomach for a period of one month. Patients were followed up
for two months. Virechana Karma has provided better relief in symptom of Matsyashakala,
Asvedanam, Rukshata, Kandu and Koebner phenomenon. On the other hand Nitya Rechana showed
comparatively better improvement in Mandala and Candle grease sign. In Virechana Karma group
66.7% patients showed marked improvement, 20% patients had moderate improvement and 13.3%
patients had mild improvement. Whereas in Nitya Rechana group 20% showed marked improvement,
53.3% moderate improvement and 26.7% patients had mild improvement. Virechana Karma has
shown better improvement in the signs and symptoms of the Eka Kushtha (Psoriasis) as compared
to Nitya Rechana.
