SCOPE OF INDIGENOUS ANTIFERTILITY DRUGS (RECENT DEVELOPMENT IN LAST DECADE)

Abstract
The problem of fertility has always been a fascinating subject of research both fronts the academic as well as the clinical point of view. In ancient Indian literatures i. e. Vedas, Upanishada, Manu Smrti and medical texts of "Ayurveda", so many indirect references are available which serve as useful source material for the generation of new ideas of research. The drugs and measures prescribed therein for contraception, abortion, different menstrual disorders and to expel the fetus and placenta have been screened for fertility control in the last decade. A number of research workers have given encouraging reports on some of these drugs. This has initiated a global interest among the researchers in this field. It is hoped that there is a great scope in finding out certain socially acceptable, cheap, easily available and non-toxic indigenous antifertility agents in the near future.
