Abstract
Introduction: Hair loss is a common and distressing symptom. There is neither any
specific treatment available for diffuse hair loss, or full understanding of the patho-physiology of
this common disorder but dandruff is said to be the common cause of it. Massage greatly improves
the blood circulation, thus increasing the health of the hair and also scalp. The aim of present study
was to evaluate etiological factors responsible for hair fall and the assessment of efficacy of
Kesharaja Taila in patients with diffuse hair loss. Material and Methods: 31 patients with diffuse
hair loss were instructed to gently massage the Kesharaja Taila daily on to the entire area of the
scalp. Response to the therapy was evaluated at the end of four weeks. Evaluation of efficacy was
done on basis of improvement in clinical symptoms like hair fall, dandruff, itching, dryness etc.
Observations and Results: The present study showed significant reduction in hair fall, dandruff,
itching etc. (p < 0.001). There were no adverse reactions, either reported or observed during the
entire study period and overall compliance to the treatment was excellent. Conclusion: Kesharaja
Taila was found to be effective in alleviating Khalitya along with significant effect on associated
complaints.
