Management of Profound hepato cellular jaundice in a child through Ayurveda- A case report

Abstract
An eleven year old boy apparently healthy with no previous major medical complaints presented with pain in right upper abdomen, loss of appetite, nausea, jaundice and weakness for last one month. Clinical examination revealed deep yellowish discolouration on sclera, oral mucosa, skin and urine. Investigations revealed profound hyperbilirubinemia, elevated liver enzymes with normal abdominal sonology and HBsAg. History and evaluation supported the diagnosis of Hepato-cellular jaundice that is widely prevalent in children. The condition was analysed on Ayurveda principles to arrive at conclusion of Koshtashakhashrita Kamala. The child was treated as per therapeutic principles of Kamala and cured of clinical symptoms. The treatment methodology and laboratory parameters used in the course of treatment are discussed here.
