Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a giant disease considered as one of the arch enemy of the mankind. Looking at its gravity, WHO has taken up a close vigilance and survey about this world over. The number of people with diabetes has risen from 108 millions (1980) to 422 millions (2014). Prameha (DM) (excessive urine in terms of frequency and quantity) is spreading its clutches rapidly due to varied dietary-lifestyle patterns. Diabetes-a course of disease with similar signs and symptoms makes way for its side by side study. In popular practice most of the Ayurvedic physicians prescribe a uniform kind of treatment to all the patients of DM they come across considering it Asadhya (incurable), which is not justified as every diabetic patient may not be Asadhya (Madhumehi) always. Material and Methods: 60 patients of DM-II divided into 3-Groups (20 each) of Kapha (Group-A), Pitta (Group-B) and Vata (Group-C) Prameha (126mg/dl≤FBS≤250mg/dl) were administered a common Sarva-Pramehahara-Yoga for 60 days and the variations in the blood sugar were noted & assessed to predict the Sadhya-Asadhyata of Prameha. Observations and Results: In Group-A, B & C improvement in FBS was 36.44%, 31.73% & 26.62% respectively while improvement in PPBS was noted as 41.34%, 37.83% and 31.78% respectively. As the results obtained were found to be statistically significant (with p<0.001) which states that DM-II can be managed & hence it is not Asadhya. Conclusion: The patients of DM-II categorized as Kapha-Pitta-Vata Pramehi according the kshaya-vriddhi symptoms of the Dosha & Dushya Dushti presented variations in the results of a common drug which indicated that all the patients of DM-II are not Asadhya (Madhumehi).
