EFFECT OF NATUROPATHY AND YOGA ON PATIENTS WITH KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS- A PROSPECTIVE RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL.

Abstract
Introduction: Osteo-arthritis of knee is degenerative disease of knee joints in older ages more in women than men. Design: It is a Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial. Materials and Methods: This study included 60 subjects with bi-lateral knee OA. Mean Age group between 58 ± 8.62 and they were randomly allocated in two groups study groups (Group-I=Experimental, Group-II=control) using lottery method from Naturopathy unit in SDM College of Medical sciences, Dharwad, and SDM Nature cure hospital shanthivana, Dharmasthala, Group-I was treated with Naturopathy & Yoga interventions and Group-II was no naturopathy and yoga intervention for duration of 10 days, (taking regular medication) the assessment tools were included VAS (visual analogue scale),WOMAC, (The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index) Goniometry, Results: The results showed a significant difference in Group –I with respect to Vas, Womac, and Goniometry (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The findings are suggestive of combined therapeutic approach of naturopathy and yoga interventions are found to be significantly reducing the pain, disability and improve the range of movements in 10 days through out-patient mode of treatments.
