Abstract
Antiemetics like Promethazine, Prochloroperazine, Chlorpromazine,Triflupromazine etc. and GIT movement regulators like Metoclopramide are commonly used in management of GIT related minor ailments of first trimester like nausea, vomiting etc. collectively called morning sickness. But availability of these drugs to rural mothers is poor. Even in urban areas where conventional therapy is available there is reluctance to take these due to their very chemical nature. To find effective non-toxic and easily available remedy, we tried a folklore drug combination based on Emblica officinalis pulp base named Amalaki gutika in pregnant mothers with different GIT related ailments and compared the results with standard regimen of Doxylamine succinate and Pyridoxine hydrochloride combination most widely used for morning sickness. This is a clinical trial report of comparative study of Amalaki gutika and Doxylamine succinate in pregnancy related morning sickness. After a trial period of 45 days when overall results were evaluated both the formulations are found equally effective.
